Early holiday gift for highway commuters
Panama’s new Metro Buses may start off with a free passage on the Corredor Sur.
The new system is scheduled to start on December 15, and a strike of the employees who collect the tolls on the Corredor Norte is planned for Monday December 13 according to labor leader Abdiel Meneses. The strike is also likely to include workers from ICA, the company that manages the Corredor Sur.
December 13 is the day marking the deadline given for the resolutions of problems between the highway management company PYCSA and employees over compensation to workers who could be laid off when the highways are nationalized.
For commuters on the corridors, the closing of toll booths will mean the disappearance of one more excuse for late arrival, as the long lines for paying disappear.
