Mia Culpa-Newsroom hit by mischief maker

Very late on Tuesday night (Dec 14), Newsroom received an e-mail, purportedly from Panama’s Ministry of Health, issuing a warning against an ingredient in cold and flu medicines that could cause death. A call to the Ministry near midnight was unanswered  but,  concerned about the urgency of the message, which follows a similar (genuine) warning a few weeks ago, we ran the item, planning to get further details when the Ministry opened. We were had. The story was a rehash of a U.S. FDA notice issued years ago, and was quickly spotted by an early morning reader(Thank you) The story was then removed from the site.
