Metro buses late for Christmas but in time for New Year
Yes Victoria there is a Santa, and although he will be late. he has “guaranteed” that on December 28, the first 120 buses of the Metro system will be operating on the Corredor Sur.
Initially promised to be in service for Christmas, the Transit Authority ran into delivery problems and the date was moved back 10 days but in time for 2011.
Luis Pinzón, planning director of Transporte Masivo de Panamá (TMP), confirmed on Wednesday (December 22) that the new transit system, Metro Bus, will start operations on Dec. 28.
On behalf of Santa he gave his assurance that the company is ready to begin offering service along the Pedregal and Don Bosco routes of the highway, despite the delay in the transfer of vehicles from Colombia to Panama.
The official said that the system will attempt to keep to currently-established routes, and that the stops are already marked,(even if the contact for building the them has not yet been awarded.)
Each bus will have an average capacity of 80 passengers, seated and standing, but mostly standing.
Will there be guarantees that the aged or infirm will get seat priority? Santa didn’t say.
