Former first lady looking at replacing ‘sloppy’ mayoralty

Panama’s former First Lady, Vivian Fernández de Torrijos, is considering throwing her hat into the ring to become Panama’s next mayor.

Widely celebrated for her active role in many community and charity organizations she took part on Sunday in a political event for the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) which has been evolving its strategy for the 2014 presidential and assembly elections.

She said she is continuing to assess the possibility of running for Mayor of Panama City in the next elections.
Fernández de Torrijos,  an advertising executive, said her goal would be to improve what she calls a "sloppy" organization
Last year, she told local media that her possible candidacy is a response to the public’s dissatisfaction with the way the Mayor’s Office of Panama has been manage with a series of major snafus by Mayor Bosco Vallarino and recently his advisor Jose Blandon which have frequently pitted the city against the governing administration of President Ricardo Martinelli who, at thje same time is a sworn enemy of the PRD.
The wife of former President Martin Torrijos said her decision will depend on the support she receives to meet her goal.
