Martinelli blind sidesvice president
President, Ricardo Martinelli, blind sided his Vice-President, Juan Carlos Varela when talking on Wednesday, June 1, about giving him support for a run at the presidency in 2014.
In January 2009, Martinelli Varela pledged to support the Varela candidacy, and pledged that he would not compete with him in the elections. The agreement was ratified in April 2010.
But on We dnesday , Martinelli side stepped the promise and said that the support for Varela to be the candidate in 2014 was just a personal thing.
"I, Ricardo Martinelli, cannot speak for the 400 thousand-odd registered members of Democratic Change (CD). Anyone who wants to run for Democratic Change has to earn their love, and has to go to primary or interparty meetings” he said in an interview withTelemetro.
According to Martinelli, who founded and funded the CD to further his political ambitions when the alliance was sealed with the Panamenistas they party had no more than 120,000 thousand registered membere and could not see anyone who had any intention of running for the presidency.
