Curundu re-housing project 45% advanced
The "Urban Renewal of Curundú" project, targeted to rehouse 5,000 area residents in homes they can afford to own, has advanced 45%.
The announcement comes from the Ministry of Housing and Norberto Odebrecht, which has the building contract.
The work is budgeted at $94.3 million, and should be ready in early2013 when 1,000 thousand apartments in four floor will be completed. There will be four apartments on each flooer
There are 16 361 people in Curundu according tothe 2010 census. The Ministry of Housing says that every apartment will have a maximum cost of $15 thousand, and the monthly household paymnet will be $50, plus water and electricity services.
The apartments are worth $50,000 , but the government has provided a $35 million subsidy and the owners must pay the remainder.
Currently, 160 families are temporarily located in Juan DemosthenesArosemena Stadium until the work is completed .
As part of the work in the sector,the Curundú river channel is being renocated "to mitigate floods and outbreaks ofinfections," and work is taking place to improve basic services: energy, water and sewage.
