Speculators benefiting from law meant to help the poor: activist
The law that created the National Land Authority (Anati) should be repealed as instead of helping the poor it is benefitting speculators says lawyer and activist Ebrahim Asvat.
He charged that the laws of Anati and the islands were designed to benefit speculators and not the humble.
He called for the repeal of Act 80 of 2009 on islands and Law 59 of 2010 which created the National Land Authority (Anati.
The allegations of Asvat were made after the resignation of the Head of Certification and Regulation of Anati, Anabelle Villamonte.
Asvat, who gave the warning on July 29 on his blog about the sale of land in Paitilla, said that Law 80 is a mixture of land regulations to help humble farmers, and others that have to do with tourist sites where millionaires and speculators are the ones who are benefiting.
Meanwhile, sectors of civil society have demanded that the resignation of Villamonte in the case of the Paitilla land grab scandal, should not lead to immunity as has happened with other scandals.
