Mariano Rivera on edge of becoming greatest closer
The Toronto Blue Jays delayed the crowning on Sunday, of Panamanian pitcher Mariano Rivera as the greatest closer in the game’s history.
The Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees 3-0 on Sunday so Rivera will travel to home turf to attempt to get a save against Minnesota to reach 602, beating the record of Trevor Hoofman, with whom he is now tied
When he reached the 600 plateau Rivera forecast that he would achieve the record in New York.
Meanwhile President Ricardo Martinelli will be jetting to the Big Apple to attend a meeting of the UN General Assembly. No mention was made of a possible visit to Yankee Stadium.
