One suspect in land grab case sits in cell, one confined to Panama
Although the Third Circuit Court has granted bail of $100,000, to the florist César Segura he was still sitting in a cell on Saturday.
The reason, reported by La Prensa is because the resolution has not become final as other parties involved are being notified of the decision of Judge Adolfo Mejía and the prosecutor could appeal the bail.
Bail was granted on Thursday afternoon, 24 hours after Attorney General, Jose Ayú Prado, ordered the arrest of Segura, , who is accused of embezzlement and forgery of documents for the free transfer of land in Paitilla.
Segura has been held in detention cells in Ancon, since last Wednesday.
The other person accused in the land grab scandal, lawyer Anabelle Villamonte, former director of the land titling authority, Anati, was given “country jail” which means she cannot leave Panama.
The Public Prosecutor has not yet been notified, so it is unknown whether it will appeal the decision of the court.
Meanwhile Prado Ayú said that his office is examining the accumulation of the four complaints filed by about the allocation of land in the area of ??Juan Hombrón in Cocle.
He added that his office is still assessing the crime that can be applied in the case of Juan Hombrón and therefore no charges have been filed in this investigation.
