Mayor plans closing ceremony for Friday rush hour

After the traffic chaos caused by the Cinta Costera Balloons parade on December 26, Panama’s mayor is pointing to more of the same.

He has  planned a closing ceremony for his Christmas villas during Friday night rush hour.

On the 26th, spectators did thousands of dollars worth of damage to the plastic effigies and fences, and sections of the crowd stampeded at one stage when shots were heard in nearby Calidonia streets. Some spectators hid in buildings or in Santo Tomas Hospital.

In a press report the mayor says the event will start at 6:00 pm, when the Cinta Costera is usually jammed with vehicles, and will be free.

Mayoral authorities emphasized in the statement that it is forbidden to use firearms and knives, as established by Decree No. 1961 of December 27, 2011.

They add that security will be  ensured.
