Staff suspect something fishy in mayors inspection visit

Panama’s newly ensconced mayor, Roxana Méndez, took her broom to the Seafood market on Avenida Balboa on Thursday  January 19 and talked with a number of employees.

With promises of a clean out of staff  at City Hall, and a demand for the resignations of 22 department heads, the visit, only days after she took over the reins, was viewed  with suspicion by some staff members

The reason for the tour, according to the mayor was to check the conditions and needs of the market  which is administered by the municipality. The mayor said she  needs to  know what can be  done for the market to operate more efficiently and with improved sanitary conditions. She  said that services at the site should be more demanding.
