Ombudsman assaulted by police in David
Panama’s Ombudswoman, Patria Portugal, reported Sunday that she was assaulted by police in David, Chiriqui. after questioning their tying hands of minors and pregnant Indians.
She said the incident took place at Enrique Malek International Airport in David, where indiginous women and children were waiting to be transported.
The Ombudsman did not explain where they came from or why those people were on the bus at the airport,
Speaking to TVN News, Portugal said the National Police officer grabbed her arm and pulled. "I crashed into the bus seat." According to Portugal, she was detained by police as she sat in the bus which would not stop until it reached the headquarters of the judiciary in the city of David. "You can not allow in this country iolations of human rights she said. "How is it possible that the Ombudsman who is to mediate is mishandled and hit ? " she said. "She regretted to hear that the Minister Jose Raul Mulino said I was not attacked. I have the evidence, I'm not a liar," said Portugal.
