Long distance bus strike threatened
Frustration with Panama’s Transit Authority (ATTT) may push long distance bus operators to suspend service for 48 hours next week.
Carriers of Veraguas, Chiriqui, Cocle, Herrera, Colon and Darien may pull the plug on Thursday April 19 and Friday April 20.. The decision would be made ??if, the general director of the Transit Authority (ATTT), John Pablo Mora, has not met with the carriers before then.
The announcement was made ??by the carrier’s leader Jose Concepcion, who said the move was decided on Wednesday, April 11 at a meeting in Chiriqui.
The meeting discussed the problems facing transit operators, such as tariffs and fuel. In Telemetro Report , Concepcion said that drivers do not want to cause trouble. However, he claimed, they have repeatedly gone to the capital to talk with the manager but have been unsuccessful. Conception said they will return to the capital on Tuesday April 17 April, where they hope to meet with Mora.
