Government seizes property owned by media critic

The Directorate General of Revenue (DGI) of Panama’s Ministry of Finance ordered precautionary seizure of the  Coronado Golf Development, Inc., whose president I. Roberto Eisenmann is the owner   of La Prensa .

The DGI also warns that it may "order new measures if there is evidence of a possible tax credit different from that motivated in the original measure. It said the injunction would be performed without interrupting the work of the establishment." The resolution wass signed by Luis E. Cucalón, CEO of Revenue.

Eisenmann, founder president of La Prensa , said it is an "abuse of authority" because the DGI is no longer involved in the case. On the basis of the appeals filed before the Tax Tribunal, the DGI has lost jurisdiction to hear the case. This action Eisenmann said, is a sequel to the criticism that as a businessman and journalist has made against the government of Ricardo Martinelli.
