Tear gas used to clear bridge protesters

 Riot police used tear gas to clear demonstrators who blocked the Trans America highway at Boqueron, Chiriqui, for four hours on Thursday, May 31.

They were protesting the lack of action fixing the water flow and replacing a bridge on the Rio Piedras, which was swept away by heavy flooding last year.

The highway  was closed for four hourscausing traffic jams including freight trucks the government of Chiriqui. Ccommunity representative Leonel Caballero reached an agreement with the governor Aixa Santamaria, who promised to channel the river next week but  Santamaria said there is still no plan for  replacing the bridge.
