Harpy eagle Cheyenne dead at 51
Cheyenne a 51- year – old male harpy eagle died on Friday at the Summit Municipal Park, near Panama.
The harpy eagle is the national bird of Panama and is in danger of extinction. Cheyenne's death was confirmed by Panama Mayor Roxana Mendez.
Mendez said at Cheyenne, who was recovering from arthritis and in the last week his health was complicated by respiratory roblems. "He was treated with great care in recent months," said Mendez.
Rafael Gomez, deputy director of the park, told La Prensa that the bird had been showing motor problems since last March on a wing and legs. The eagle was treated in an isolated area of the park.and experts in the treatment of raptors wre consulted.
