Transistmica drivers asked for 10 months of patience

Panama’s beleaguered  drivers who regularly   spend  more than an hour a day sitting in traffic jams  have been asked to be patient  if they use Transistmica.

The call comes from the executive secretary of the Panama Metro, Robert Roy, who on Thursday  asked for patience for any inconvenience that may be caused by the installation work of U beams for the elevated section of Metro Line One of Panama, on Transístmica. There are almost as many beams as days in the year, and each beam will take a day to install.

The route is  already stop and go on a “god day” and  a source of business for  one enterprising  pizza maker who has staff selling slices to motorists who sit watching the gas needle fall while on their way to work.

Roy said that to place the beams, two cranes are needed so road space is limited.

These beams, which are manufactured in a  yard, located on the road to the Centennial Bridge, are 30 meters long and weigh 160 tons.

It will take at least  10 months to put 361 beams in place.
