Police lieutenant a no show at investigation into beating

A new date for the questioning of a police lieutenant charged with a beating an arrested man  in September,11  has not been set.

Severiano De La Espada, was accused by Hector Castro of a beating at the police station in La Chorrera that left the victim  incapacitated for 20 days. The beating was said to have taken place  after the officer arrested him at Spa La Arenosa.

The prosecution cited De La Espada  to surrender for investigation on surrender on July 31, but did not attend.

 Now prosecutor Carlos Campbell is attempting to  seta new date.

Mara Rivera, spokeswoman for the National Police, said the institution respects the decisions of judicial authorities and will not comment on criminal proceedings.

Castro filed a complaint with the Office of Professional Responsibility of the National Police, but has never been called to testify and does not know whether any research was carried out against the lieutenant.
