US Embassy site readied for handover to kids hospital

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) moved in on Monday, Aug. 13 to clean up the lot where the former US Embassy stoodt to rprepare it  for a hand over ceremony.

The lot has been ceded to the Hospital del Nino for the construction of a new hospital expected to cost around $150 million. The lot is valued at $13 million. MOP crews cut grass, picked up trash and leveled some areas ready for the hand over ceremony on August 14.

President, Ricardo Martinelli, will formerly pass the land to the trustees.
On Tuesday, August 7 the Cabinet decided to transfer the plot to the Children's Hospital Trust under a "constraint domain" which will ensure that the land is used for its intended purposes, and if that is changed the original plans will have to be submitted for approval by the Cabinet Council and the National Assembly.
