Colon flag bearers don black headbands in national parade

What should have been a day of celebration in Colon, became a  mournful reminder of the deaths of three protesters when the flag bearers, donned black headbands for the national heritage parade.

 

Broad Front leaders Felipe Cabeza and Edgardo Voitier, were honored as flag bearers in Sunday’s national heritage parade. After receiving the national flag and before beginning the parade they donned black headbands to mourn the three people shot and killed during the protests against Law 72 and as a reminder to the authorities in Colon. .

Cabbeza said the Colon people deserve recognition for the struggle to repeal Law 72, "and we honor the victims of the bullets used by the National Police."
Edgardo Voitier, expressed appreciation to the Commission for patriotic celebrations, "This is a recognition to the people who bravely came out to defend their heritage and to remind the government to ensure justice prevails and to provide the people of Colon with more resources and better days."
