City still seeking bids for underground parking
A $4 – $5 million dollar project to build underground parking lots in Panama city has been left hanging out to dry for the third time.
The Mayor of Panama declared void, on Wednesday December 26, a tender for the project of underground parking in four areas of the city.
The decision was taken at about the 11:00 a.m. after the now show of 22 companies involved in the project.
The previous two failed attempts at securing bids were on December 3 and 18.
"Stakeholders have indicated that the amount to develop the project limits their participation and the idea is to try to come together through consortia and thus have the ability to cope with the underground project," said a statement from the mayor’s office.
The four sites scheduled for underground parking are Parque Urracá with a capacity of 780 spaces, the Parque Harry Strunz, 366; Parque Porras, 362, and the Parque Francisco Arias Paredes, with capacity of 446..
