Panama’s ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) has been fired following his outburst against Venezuela,President Hugo Chavez and the secretary general of the Pan-American body.
Guillermo Cochez was accused by critics as acting as a spokesman for the Venezuelan opposition and President Ricardo Martinelli, and Panama’s Ministry of Foreign affairs were quick to distance themselves from hos political misstep.
His appointment was nullified by Decree 2 ,January 17, 2013, signed by President Martinelli and Foreign Minister Romulo Roux.
The notice reached Cochez just hours after Martinelli reaffirmed that the opinions expressed regarding Venezuela were not shared by the Government.
Cochez told La Prensa: "The President did not give me orders not to talk. I will not go into details of what it was that I wrote, because that would violate the secrecy of the President with an officer."
