Fear of bacteriasl epedemic cuts hospital patient visits
ALL 16 HOSPITALS administered by Panama’s Social Security Fund (CSS) are limiting patient visits to one per person to prevent a massive bacterial epidemic.
According to Liska Richards, National Director of CSS Medical Services the measure will be implemented to protect the patients who are susceptible to acquiring bacteria.
Richards said there is no outbreak of Clostridium in the CSS facilities but, added that it is the duty of the health authorities to introduce measures and safety protocols for infection prevention.
She listed actions that visors should take into account to prevent the spread of bacteria, such as washing hands frequently, avoiding physical contact with other people and crowds.
The measure was first implemented in early February at the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex and will now apply indefinitely in all hospitals in the country, aid Richards
Some 850 patients will remain in The Arnulfo Arias Madrid complex and it will continue to attend the 100 elective surgeries that occur each day and 4000 daily appointments.
