12 teams in Panama aiming for U-17 World Cup
Panamanian soccer fans will get a preview of some of the world's future soccer stars as the country hosts the CONCACAF U-17 Championships from April 6-19.
Three teams from North America, Canada, USA and Mexico, will be battling regional teams for the CONCACAF title and spots in the 2013 World Cup.
Twelve teams will compete in the group round and the top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, and the winners of those matches will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
The groups are:
Group A: Panama, Barbados, Jamaica;
Group B: Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago;
Group C: USA, Guatemala, Haiti;
Group D: México, Honduras, Cuba.
The Canadian team will play their opening match against Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday, April 6, at 5:30 pm at Estadio Agustín Muquita Sánchez, in La Chorrera. They play their second match at the same stadium on Wednesday, April 10,at 5:30 pm against Costa Rica.
The US team will play Haiti at 6.30 pm on April 7, and Guatemala at 6.30 on April 11.
The quarter finals will be played April 13 and 14; semifinals April 17; 3rd place and finals April 19.
