Panama through to U-17 World Cup
PANAMA’S stock as a rising football (soccer) country rose another few points on Saturday, April 13 when its team qualified Panama through to U-17 World Cupthe under-17 World Cup
Panama beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf elimination round in Chorrera.
The victory allows the country to advance to the finals, which will take place at the end of year in the United Arab Emirates. It is the second time that Panama has qualified for the finals.
Earlier in the month the National team was elevated to #38 in world rankings, its highest point yet, and still has a strong chance of advancing to the World Cup in Rio in 2014.
Panama fell behind 1-0 early, but scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead. Trinidad answered in the 85th minute to cut the deficit to a goal, but Panama scored near the end of the game to secure the win..
After the game, Manager Jorge Dely Valdes said he was happy but said the team stll has to work on several areas, such as finishing its opportunities.
