Power cuts today if energy saving goals not reached
POWER CUTS of between two and four hours could start today Friday May 10, if it does not rain in the areas of the hydroelectric reservoirs and energy saving goals are not met.
The National Secretariat of Energy today has announced that consumers must reduce energy demand by 200 megawatts, to avoid cuts.
The power rationing is also subject to an increase in the water level in the Fortuna reservoir whose water will be saved during the for use in power generation on Monday.
Until Thursday the Bayano and Fortuna reservoirs, the country’s largest had just one meter above the minimum level. If Fortuna keeps going down operations will be suspended the agency warned.
Air conditioners are off in the whole public sector and the private sector was ordered to implement the same measure between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture expressed concern about the effect energy restrictions will have on in companies that do not havea power plant.
