Government wiretaps part of smear campaign – Navarro

PRD presidential candidate Juan Carlos Navarro, said that a new smear campaign against him is underway and he accused the government of illegal wiretapping.

"You are pushing a recording of me talking to Javier Martínez Acha" said Navarro.

Navarro says, has not heard the recording but it appears that it is one of the conversations he had with Acha Martinez, deputy secretary general of the PRD.
He said that only the government can perform such illegal recordings. “ It is part of a government smear campaign,"
Navarro's statements came after a Thursday meeting with the PRD Policy Commission where another recording scandal was analyzed. It was of an alleged conversation of Roberto "Bobby" Velasquez. Following the publication of that audio on social networks, Velasquez decided to withdraw his candidacy for mayor of Panama.
Navarro said the party is still conducting an investigation to determine the origin and dissemination of the Velasquez recording.
