Panamas World Cup dream flickering but alive
LAST MINUTE stoppage time goal kept Panama’s hope of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup faintly flickering on Tuesday September 1.
The goal by Gabriel Torres from a feed by Luiz Henriquez nine yards out, gave Panama a 2-2 tie with Honduras and put them in fourth position, even on points with Mexico in the CONCACAF hexagonal qualifying competition. Torres scored both of Panama's goals.

The top three teams go to the World Cup in Brazil, the fourth place team will have to defeat New Zealand. But Panama, playing well below the form that put them in second place in the CONCACAF Gold Cup have a tough task ahead. They face Mexico and the US,
Panama will play Mexico, at Estadio Azteca on Oct. 11, a must win game for both teams, and finish off their qualifying stint with a home game against the United States on Oct. 15.
Honduras remains in third place on 10 points. They'll host Costa Rica on Oct. 11 and visit Jamaica on Oct. 15.
In other matches of the day, the United States beat Mexico 2-0 and Costa Rica drew 1-1 with Jamaica. The US and Costa Rica are Rio de Janerio bound next year,
Costa Rica qualified for just the fourth time in their history. The last time they qualified was in 2006.
Jamaica's thin hopes of qualifying remain alive, but they'd almost certainly need full points from their final two matches and need some help after claiming just four points in their first eight. The Reggae Boyz visit the United States on Oct. 11
