Mass cancer awareness march

PINK and blue shirts running into the thousands filled the Cinta Costera on Sunday October 26 as their wearers, many holding pink or blue umbrellas, marched to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of breast and prostate cancer.

The event , organized by the Office of the First Lady, began at 7 a.m. with the participation of officials of state institutions and others wearing pink and blue ribbons.

It was the major event as a month of activities neared its end with the slogan "Celebrate life, get an exam,."
The director of the National Cancer Institute, Aníbal Villa-Real, said that 520 cases of breast cancer and 430 cases of prostrate cancer have been diagnosed so far this year.
