VICE PRESIDENT Juan Carlos Varela and his wife Lorena Castillo were rushed to Paitilla hospital on Wednesday evening, November 13, after a traffic accident on Calle 50.

Varela who is also the Panameñista presidential candidate, received a blow to one knee, and was discharged, but his wife was detained overnight for observation.

La Prensa reported that the accident occurred when they were heading to the National Library Ernesto J. Castillero in Parque Omar to take part in the presentation of the book: “When Freedom Was Dressed In White.“ Acrossing vehicle collided with them near Arrocha Pharmacy.
The occupants of the other car were taken to Hospital Punta Pacifica.
