Safety programs underway for Metro subway

PANAMA Metro and the Panama Fire Department have started working on safety measures for the system when it begins operating next year.

The stations that will handle  emergencies in the system are: Carrasquilla, Betania, Calidonia, San Miguelito and Balboa. Reports La Prensa.

There will also be 300 police officers assigned to the Metro, and each car will have an officer.
Panama fire official Cristian Toribio said that the Bethania station staff will be responsible for specialized rescues, and have equipment and training to deal with issues such as collapsed structures within the system.
Toeibio added that all fire stations have gone through some training for dealing with emergencies in the Metro.
