24 Panama cops awaiting trial for homicide
SENIOR PROSECUTORS are awaiting a decision to move ahead with trials for homicide for 24 National Police (PN) officers.
Three of the four senior prosecutors have the Second Superior Court for homicide trials of the 24 members of the National Police killings during the period between 2011 and 2013, according to a report by the Public Ministry.
The top “first” prosecutors have 18 cases waiting to appear while the second and third prosecutors, have six.
Earlier this year, in the upper third prosecutor filed for the trial for the murder of two children, one aged 15 and the other aged 2. They were of Indian origin, and wer killed at a roadside check point in San Carlos, on October 23.
La Prensa reported that several of the defendants are carrying out administrative tasks in the PN headquarters, located in Ancon.
Others are under office arrest, similar to house arrest. No one appears to be behind bars.
