Mall bans dengue signs, fined $5,000
AS PANAMA’S Ministry of Health (MoH) struggles to control the Dengue epidemic, a mall refused to let health officials post signs warning the public about the disease.
The owners of the El Dorado Mall have been slapped with a $5,000 fine by the MoH and will face further sanctions if the situation is not corrected.
The Ministry said that on Friday, January 3, mall security guards impeded the work of ministry officials who went to the facility to post signs promoting the steps that need to be taken to control dengue.
The guards also failed to allow the officials to post notices on vehicles in the parking lot.
The Ministry said that the mall violated the government regulations regarding health alerts.
The incident came on the same day that the Ministry announced the fourth death from dengue -an eight year old child.
