1,002 new dengue cases in 26 days
THERE WERE 1,002 confirmed new cases of dengue in Panama in the first 26 days of the year says the secretary general of the Ministry of Health (MoH) Félix Bonilla.
The figure is almost a third of the 3,232 cases in 2013 and comes at a time when traditionally, furing the summer season, the number of cases declines.
In the last five days 299 patients were listed as dengue sufferers.
Bonilla said that Panama metro, west Panama, San Miguelito, Cocle and Herrera have the highest rates of disease infestation, despite work undertaken by regional offices of the MoH to reduce the mosquito Aedes aegypti, which carries and transmits the disease
