Business leader calls on Martinelli to stay out of election

THE PRESIDENT of a leading body Panamanian of businessmen  is the latest to express concerns about President Ricardo Martinelli’s role in the upcoming election.

Aramburú Fernando Porras who heads the Panamanian Association of Business Executives ( APEDA ), has called on Martinelli “for the sake he country” to stay out of the election political arena.

In 'To the point' program , which is led by journalist Flor Mizrachi, Aramburú Porras said the government should get out of the political campaign and allow the candidates to compete.
Poras said , "Mr President I beg you please, for the sake of the country to stay out of the campaign … simply because it is against our institutions.
"To the extent that a clean, transparent electoral battle, is starting to be dirty, we are seeing personal attacks against certain candidates, but that will not achieve positive results for the county … you cannot have a confrontation between the people because that itself would lead to chaos and kill the goose that lays the golden eggs."
He also, referred to the statement issued the day before by Apede and reiterated that the message had nothing to do with a political position.
On the contrary, it was the intention of Apede to call attention to the concentration of power, since it is time to correct course. He pointed to the fact that the Apede has always defended and will continue to defend democratic institutions and the rule of law.
