Arias leads in latest election poll

WITH Less than three months to the elections on May 4, the government candidate José Domingo Arias continues to lead in the polls with 37.7%, eight points over his closest contender, Juan Carlos Navarro, PRD, 29.7%.

Juan Carlos VarelaPanameñista,stand's in third place with 21.4% over 16 points behind the leader.

If the election were held today, Arias would be heading for the presidential palace, lacking the endorsement of over 50% pf the population. The PRD and Panamenista parties were unable to cobble together a mooted election coalition to fight the Martinelli nominee.

The most recent poll commissioned by La Prensa, differs from a poll conducted for La Estrella which put Arias and Navarro in a statistical tie.

This poll conducted by Quantix Panama, SA shows that, since January support for Arias Navarro grew between two and three points, with no variation for Varela, widening the gap between the second and third to eight points.
The survey, conducted among 1,475 thousand people from February 6 to 9 in progress, has a margin of error of plus / minus 2.55 percentage points. The full results will be published February 17 in the La Prensa supplement, Pulse of the Nation.
