Many fail to comply with energy saving order

FOR THE SECOND year in a row Panama businesses and authorities have been called upon to introduce energy saving measures by turning off unnecessary lighting and for the second year, many ignored the call.

The energy saving measures were announced on Sunday, March 16, by Minister of the Presidency, Roberto Henriquez they were serving.

The public and private sector were asked to douse neon signs and billboards, from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am daily. The provision does not apply to hospitals, health centers, pharmacies and schools.
But on the first night, Monday, January 17, Casinos, restaurant signs and advertising bill boards continued to light the skies.
On Tuesday, the Authority of Public Services (ASEP) began a sweep to verify compliance with the  energy saving provisions..
