Electoral Tribunal judges qualifications challenged

A FORMER employee of Electoral Tribunal (TE) Judge Erasmo Pinilla has requested certification to prove that he graduated as a lawyer from the University of Panama.

Javier Bosso Campbell, is claiming that the judge does not have a law degree, which is a constitutional requirement to be a TE judge.

It is not the first time that Bosso Campbell has undertaken legal action against his former boss.
In 2012, he accused the judge of illegally having family employees on the payroll of the TE. Pinilla filed a countersuit for libel in that case.
Pinilla is also facing several lawsuits filed against him by people affiliated with the ruling CD.
In 2012, lawyer Hugo Polo, acting on behalf of President Ricardo Martinelli, went to the Supreme Court to have Pinilla and then Judge Gerardo Solís removed over a decision that went against a CD candidate in a special election in Los Santos.
Martinelli asked Polo to withdraw the complaint after it was criticized by a number of civic groups.
