Media thanked for ethics pact support

PANAMA’’S Media, under regular attack from the government, with President Ricardo Martinelli leading the charge, picked up a prominent supporter on Sunday April 13 in the shape of Archbishop José Domingo Ulloa.

After leading a procession from Santa Ana to the Metropolitan Cathedral to mark Palm Sunday he prayed for a peaceful election on May 4 and thanked the media for adhering to the electoral ethics pact and refusing to air defamtory ads that harm the image of other citizens.

Ulloa was recently subject to some sharp comments from Martinelli while standing at his side during the opening of a new prison. The President called for more Church recognition of his achievements.
The Archbishop called on all politicians who are successful in being elected to "always keep in mind the common good and the protection of those with the least resources and who are the most fragile.”
He reminded citizens of their duty to not only vote, but to do so with an informed opinion.
Ulloa called on people to respect the results of the election, calling it the "sovereign decision of the Panamanian people."
