Martinelli ribbon cutting marathon ends
AFTER a marathon of ribbon cutting ceremonies for government projects, many unfinished, during April, in the run up to the election, President Ricardo Martinelli appears to be taking a breather.
Martinelli opened 20 photo-op projects in April, an average of one every weekday in the month, as shown by information from the government web site.
On April 1, he opened a new prison located in Pacora with a capacity for 5,000 inmates.
Subsequently, on April 3, he inaugurated new installations at the Social Security headquarters in Guabito, despite the fact that this entity, by law, is not part of the central government and is autonomous..
The next day, April 4, the Marinelli took an active part in another of Social Security ocation, this one to open the new parking lots at the Arnulfo Arias Madrid Medical Complex.
On April 5 and 9, Martinelli his flagship projects: the Metro and the contraversial third phase of the Cinta Costera. During the latter, he played volleyball, ate fried fish and drove a buggy along the viaduct that connects the Avenida Balboa and the Avenida de Los Poetas.
With each inauguration, Martinelli – who publicly and repeatedly campaigned for his party's presidential candidate (even though the Constitution and the Electoral Code forbid it) – announced that he had fulfilled the promises he made during the 2009 campaign reports La Prensa
The last time the president opened a projects was the delivery of two Minsa-Capsi projects (one in Dolega and another in Volcán, Chiriqui).
For his part, Secretary of State Communications Luis Eduardo Camacho denied the lack of public appearances by Martinelli is related to the party's loss in the presidential election.
Camacho said that the president is going to continue inaugurating works until his term ends June 30.
