6.4 % of Panama women justify abuse

A STUDY by the National Institute of Statistics has determined that 6.4 percent of women in Panama think domestic abuse is justified in certain situations. The study had the technical and financial support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

There were 9,431 women between 15 and 49 interviewed for the study. A total of 6.4 percent responded that, under certain conditions, a man is justified in hitting his partner.
Those women said that actions that could justify domestic abuse include going out without warning, neglecting children, arguing with a husband, refusing to have sex, burning food or dressing in a provocative manner.
The results of the survey reveal that women who tolerate more abuse from a male partner are between 15 and 19 years old, reports La Prensa.
