Panama election challenges set for August
THE HEARINGS on challenges to local results in Panama’s May 4 elections are likely to be hears in august says Electoral Tribunal (TE) Judge Erasmo Pinilla
He said, on Monday, July 14, the TE is still in the process of investigating and processing the claims that were submitted.
Judge Eduardo Valdés Ecoffery also said the investigation phase is nearing completion, saying the judges are only waiting for “a few” reports.
He explained that there are two scenarios for each case, either a new election will be ordered or the winning candidate will be confirmed. Currently, there are 14 races that are subject to challenges.
Several of them revolve around the alleged use of government funds to support the then ruling CD party candidates.
