Colombias president to discuss ex-spy chief during Panama visit.
ANOTHER hot potato left by the former administration will be raised on Friday, July 25, by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos during an official visit to Panama.
Panama’s Minister of Public Safety, Rodolfo Aguilera, announced in a statement to reporters on Thursday that “during the visit of Colombian authorities, the case ofColombia’s former director of intelligence María del Pilar Hurtado, who lost her asylum in Panama, will be addressed at a very high level.” She was granted asylum by former president, Ricardo Martinelli, in 2010.
Hurtado is wanted for wiretapping government opponents, judges and journalists. She lost her asylum status last May following a Supreme Court ruling that declared it unconstitutional. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
