Colliding pirate buses send nine to hospital
JUST OVER two weeks after a speeding “pirate” bus killed two passengers and sent 16 to hospital, a collision between two other pirates near Veracruz on Wednesday, morning August 13, sent another nine people for treatment.
The injured were transported to medical facilities in the capital by ambulances from the National Civil Protection System (SINAPROC) and Single Emergency Management System (ADD).
At the time of the accident, pirate carriers had closed for the second day the Arrijin-La Chorrera highway, the area where the fatal accident occurred.
They were protesting, an operation to verify driver’s licenses conducted by agents of the Transit Authority(ATTT) and Land Transport and the National Police (PN) began.
Another group of “pirate bus drivers” blocked, the northern corridor near the Tinajitas Toll.
They too were protesting the police and ATTT “surprise operation” to check the validity of the licenses of the illegal buses.
The ATTT said that in addition to the confiscation of expired licenses, it is towing vehicles to the ATTT courtyard.
In the first license charge they are fined of $150.
A further booking would lead to a $200, fine, $250 the third time, and for the fourth time suspension.
