Prosecutor asks for lifting of immunity for 3 CD deputies
NEWLY ELECTED CD deputies denounced for use of state funds during the May 2014 elections are not yet of the hook as they prepare to take their seats.
Electoral prosecutor, Eduardo Penaloza said on the weekend that he would ask the Electoral Tribunal to lift the immunity of the candidates that were denounced for the use of state funds and property and to start investigations.
Penaloza made his statements on Sunday, December 21 in the city of Penonomé, Cocle province. La Prensa points out that the Electoral Prosecutor cannot investigate elected representatives and that such cases should be referred to the Supreme Court. He can only act in cases of losing candidates that were reported such as Rogelio Baruco.
Meanwhile, the cases of elected and sworn deputies Mariela Vega, Noriel Salerno and Carlos Afu, were sent from his office to the Electoral Tribunal which in turn are sent to the Supreme Court.
Justice may still be seen to be done.
