Long grillings for spying suspects

TWO KEY players in the Martinelli era spying scandal remain behind bars after facing hours of intensive questioning by Assistant Attorney General Marcelino Aguilar.

The Assistant Prosecutor, by, imposed remand in custody injunctions on former National Security Council (NSC) members Gustavo Perez and Alejandro Garuz who are under investigation for the alleged crime of inviolability of secrecy and the right to privacy.
They join a growing number of former high profile personalities in the Martinelli administration viewing the world from a cell, or under house arrest.
On Tuesday, January 13, at 8 am, For the second consecutive day, , Gustavo Pérez was taken under tight security from the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) in Ancon,to the office of the Deputy Attorney General, in Calidonia,
The investigation process ended at about 1:00 pm and he was immediately transferred back to the holding cell at the DIJ.
Armando Fuentes, Perez’s attorney, said his client during the inquiry said “everything he knows.” Reports La Prensa.
He said that there may be compelling aspects in the recordings, but not something t linked directly to his client.
At 2:30 pm, Alejandro Garuz, whose daughter is married to one of Martinelli’s sons, arrived for his grilling, which lasted eight hours before being returned to his cell. He was surrounded by security personnel, so that the media could not capture clear images of the former secretary of the CSN
On Monday, hours after the arrest and detention of Perez and Garuz, the Attorney General, Kenia Porcell, said that the case has to do with wiretaps, BlackBerry Messenger messages, WhatsApp, email messaging, an audio reception room, access to phone book, information memory cards and location of cell phones.
