Varelas veto upsets citizens group

PRESIDENT Juan Carlos Varela’s has partial vetoing of the judicial career law has drawn the ire of the Citizen’s Alliance for Justice

The president’s objections were outlined on Wednesday, April 22 by National Assembly Secretary Anelis Bernal.
Varela expressed concerns over certain provisions, namely the distribution of bonuses based on seniority, the compulsory use of private insurance policies and the forced resignation of officials within three years of reaching retirement age.
The action was criticized by Citizen’s Alliance Director Magaly Castillo.
“The president…vetoed eight sections of the judicial career act. We will now have to wait another five years,” Castillo said.
