Case against Judge Benavides moves forward

The complaint against Supreme Court Judge Victor Benavides has advanced to the plenary of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly Credentials Committee has agreed to meet next Monday to choose three judges for a case against Supreme Court Judge Victor Benavides It will also ask National Assembly President Adolfo Valderrama to call a session to appoint a prosecutor.

 Valderrama confirmed Wednesday May 13 that he would be calling a special session of the plenary, and that it would likely be Tuesday.
Democratic Change (CD) Deputy Mario Miller, who was the only member of the committee to vote against the indictment, said he will submit a report outlining his objections to the case to Valderrama.
The committee today also examined 44 other outstanding cases involving Supreme Court justices, some dating back to 2009.
The committee also analyzed a complaint against former President Ricardo Martinelli. This complaint was sent to the Supreme Court, since Martinelli is currently a member of the Central American Parliament and he can only be investigated by the Supreme Court Martinelli was denounced by Héctor Ortega for allegedly violating freedom of suffrage.
Today’s meeting was led by Katleen Levy as Committee Chairman Luis Barría is on a trip to China which has raised protests from some deputies.
