Martinellis brother to face anti-corruption prosecutors

MARIO MARTINELLI , brother of former President Ricardo Martinelli, has been ordered to appear for questioning in the case involving irregularities in the purchase of school backpacks by the National Assistance Program (PAN).

Mario Martinelli was designated as the owner and major shareholder of the companies Hialing Corporation and Vafepa, which managed two contracts for the sale of backpacks to the PAN for $5.3 million.
Businessman Pablo Ruiz Obregón, in a statement made July 8 to the second anti-corruption prosecutor, implicated Martinelli.
According to Obregón, the brother of the former president made all the decisions concerning the two contracts.
Martinelli is also accused of embezzlement, fraud and corruption in connection with irregularities in the purchase of grains by the PAN.
He has been barred from leaving the country but has not been jailed due to health problems.
