Pope names Panama Cardinal to Latin America Commission

POPE FRANCIS has named Cardinal José Luis Lacunza of Panama as a member of the Commission for Latin America.

In addition to Lacunza, the pontiff named Daniel Fernando Sturla Berhouet of Uruguay and Andrés Stanovnik, Argentina, to the commission.

Sturla and Lacunza were named cardinals earlier this year.

Lacunza was born in Spain but has lived most of his life in Panama. He lives in David, Chiriqui.

The Commission for Latin America was instituted by Pope Pius XII in 1958.
